Award-Winning Italian Pizzeria Fermenta Comes to Kuala Lumpur!

In January 2026, Kuala Lumpur will host a rare expression of Italian regional pizza culture. For the first time beyond Italy, Fermenta, the acclaimed contemporary pizzeria from Chieti, Abruzzo, will present its work abroad – exclusively at Bacio Italian Kitchen for two evenings only.

Recognised with Tre Spicchi in Gambero Rosso’s Pizzerie d’Italia 2026 and ranked among Italy’s leading pizzerias by 50 Top Pizza, Fermenta is known for its disciplined approach to dough, fermentation, and territorial expression. Its arrival in Malaysia marks a significant moment for the local Italian dining landscape, bringing Abruzzo’s identity directly to the table.

A Dialogue of Origins

This collaboration brings together Luca Cornacchia, chef-pizzaiolo and co-founder of Fermenta, and Stefano Criber, Executive Chef of Bacio Italian Kitchen – two chefs shaped by the same place, yet refined by different professional paths.

Both originate from Chieti, Abruzzo, sharing not only geography but a common culinary memory: flavours learned at the table, techniques passed through tradition, and a deep respect for Italian craftsmanship. Their meeting in Kuala Lumpur is not driven by trend or concept, but by shared heritage, lived experience, and an uncompromising commitment to authenticity.

Across the two evenings, guests are invited into a carefully structured progression of doughs, fermentation methods, and baking techniques – each course revealing a different expression of Italian pizza culture. Subtle references to Abruzzo appear throughout the menu, not as nostalgia, but as quiet markers of identity.

About Fermenta

Founded in 2018 by Luca Cornacchia and Giorgia Santuccione, Fermenta represents one of Italy’s most distinctive voices in contemporary pizza.

Cornacchia leads Fermenta’s work on dough research, fermentation, and pizza development, applying a rigorous and methodical approach to flour selection, hydration, and technique.

Santuccione, from four generations of Abruzzese restaurateurs, oversees hospitality, beverage curation, and professional training. Her work earned Fermenta the Gambero Rosso Award for Best Beverage List 2024, recognising one of Italy’s most refined pizza pairing programmes.

About Bacio Italian Kitchen

Located in Mont Kiara, Bacio Italian Kitchen is often regarded as the new real Italian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Dedicated to delivering an authentic Italian dining experience grounded in craftsmanship, regional traditions, and genuine hospitality.

Founded and operated by Italian chefs, Bacio is led by a fully Italian culinary and management team. The kitchen is helmed by Italian executive chefs with experience in Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, bringing classical training, professional discipline, and deep respect for Italian culinary culture into a contemporary setting.
